Quotes of the day from previous years:

If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, 'Thank You', that would suffice. ~ Meister Eckhart

I would rather be able to appreciate things I cannot have than to have things I am not able to appreciate. ~ Elbert Hubbard

2005
Put every great teacher together in a room, and they'd agree about everything, put their disciples in there and they'd argue about everything. ~ Bruce Lee

2006
Use only that which works, and take it from any place you can find it. ~ Bruce Lee

2007
Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend. ~ Bruce Lee

2008
Do not deny the classical approach, simply as a reaction, or you will have created another pattern and trapped yourself there. ~ Bruce Lee

Suggestions

Truth has no path. Truth is living and, therefore, changing. Awareness is without choice, without demand, without anxiety; in that state of mind, there is perception. To know oneself is to study oneself in action with another person. Awareness has no frontier; it is giving of your whole being, without exclusion. ~ Bruce Lee (date of birth)

The perfect way is only difficult for those who pick and choose. Do not like, do not dislike; all will then be clear. Make a hairbreadth difference and heaven and earth are set apart; if you want the truth to stand clear before you, never be for or against. The struggle between "for" and "against" is the mind's worst disease. ~ Bruce Lee (date of birth)

  • 0 Kalki 00:16, 27 November 2008 (UTC) * 3 Kalki 15:24, 23 November 2008 (UTC) This quote is misattributed to Lee : In Striking Thoughts: Bruce Lee's Wisdom for Daily Living (2000) edited by John Little, it is attributed to Lee, but it is also quoted in precisely this form, from what appear to be translations from Taoist writings in The Religions of Man (1958) by Huston Smith. I would be willing to rank this a 3 or perhaps even a 4, even on this date, if full and proper attributions were found for it. (Current information which led me to exclude this as a quote from Lee derives primarily from looking at segments of the 1958 book found with Google Booksearch).
    • I really liked this quote. I was surely hoping that it was one of Lee's. Even if it was edited by Little and/or related to the writings of Smith, I'd still associate it with Lee, this was the best choice for the day with the deep message. Zarbon 03:37, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm not a master, I'm a student-master, meaning that I have the knowledge of a master and the expertise of a master, but I'm still learning, So I'm a student-master. I don't believe in the word master, I consider the master as such when they close the casket. ~ Bruce Lee

Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself; do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it. ~Bruce Lee

Like everyone else you want to learn the way to win. But never to accept the way to lose. To accept defeat — to learn to die — is to be liberated from it. ~Bruce Lee

What shall I do with all the days and hours
That must be counted ere I see thy face?
How shall I charm the interval that lowers
Between this time and that sweet time of grace?

----

A sacred burden is this life ye bear:
Look on it, lift it, bear it solemnly,
Stand up and walk beneath it steadfastly.
Fail not for sorrow, falter not for sin,
But onward, upward, till the goal ye win.
~ Fanny Kemble
