Coach Boone

  • You're over-cooking my grits, coach. Alright, I will allow Coach Tyrell to coach the special teams, but I will be keeping my eye on him. And you.Ń

  • This is not a democracy. It is a dictatorship. I am the law!

  • We will be perfect in every aspect of the game. You drop a pass, you run a mile. You miss a blocking assignment, you run a mile. You fumble the football and I will break my foot off in your John Brown hind parts...and then you will run a mile. Perfection. Let's get to work.

  • You look like a bunch of fifth grade sissies after a cat fight! You got anger, that's good. You're gonna need it, you got aggression that's even better. You're gonna need that, too. But any little two year old child can throw a fit! Football is about controlling that anger, harnessing that aggression into a team effort to achieve perfection!

  • This is where they fought the battle of Gettysburg. Fifty thousand men died right here on this field, fighting the same fight that we are still fighting among ourselves today. This green field right here, painted red, bubblin' with the blood of young boys. Smoke and hot lead pouring right through their bodies. Listen to their souls, men. I killed my brother with malice in my heart. Hatred destroyed my family. You listen, and you take a lesson from the dead. If we don't come together right now on this hallowed ground, we too will be destroyed, just like they were. I don't care if you like each other or not, but you will respect each other. And maybe... I don't know, just maybe we'll learn to play this game like men.

  • I'm not gonna talk to you tonight about winnin' and losin'. You're already winners 'cause you didn't kill each other up at camp.

  • In Greek mythology, the Titans were greater even than the gods. They ruled their universe with absolute power! Well that football field out there tonight, that's our universe. Let's rule it like Titans!

  • Now I may be a mean cuss. But I'm the same mean cuss with everybody out there on that football field. The world don't give a damn about how sensitive these kids are, especially the black kids. You ain't doin' these kids a favor by patronizing them. You're crippling them; You're crippling them for life.

  • How many feet are in a mile? How many feet are in a mile? 5,280. You pick this ball up, and you run every one of them! You're killing me Petey! You're killing me!

  • I don't scratch my head unless it itches and I don't dance unless I hear some music. I will not be intimidated. That's just the way it is.

  • I'm a winner. I'm going to win.

  • It's all right. We're in a fight. You boys are doing all that you can do. Anybody can see that. Win or lose... We gonna walk out of this stadium tonight with our heads held high. Do your best. That's all anybody can ask for cool

Sheryl Yoast

  • Y'all are acting like a bunch of sissies! Quit it!
  • He's gettin' beat like he stole something!
  • In Virginia, high school football is a way of life, it's bigger than Christmas day. My daddy coached in Alexandria, he worked so hard my momma left him, but I stayed with coach, he needed me on that field.
  • People say that it can't work, black and white; well here we make it work, everyday. We have our disagreements, of course, but before we reach for hate, always, always, we remember the Titans.

Others

  • Blue Stanton: [on Alan's "singing"] Does the term "cruel and unusual punishment" mean anything to you?

  • Coach Yoast: You make sure they remember, FOREVER, the night they played the Titans!

  • Bertier: I love you, sugar.

  • Bertier: I swear to God, I'm gonna hit you so hard, by the time you come to, oooh boy, you're gonna need a new haircut!

  • Petey Jones: Why the clouds, Sunshine?

  • Carol Boone: Sometimes life is hard for no reason at all.

  • Coach Yoast: [when Boone gets the team to do up-downs] There's a fine line between tough and crazy and you're flirting with it.

  • Coach Yoast: [when Boone wakes everyone up at 3am] This is a high school football team, not the marines.

Dialogue

Coach Boone: [Petey has his hand raised ] Put your hand down! You're smiling.
Petey Jones: Yes.
Coach Boone: Yes, sir. Why are you smiling?
Petey Jones: 'Cause I love football. Football's fun.
Coach Boone: Fun, sir. It's fun?
Petey Jones: Yes.
Coach Boone: Sir. You sure?
Petey Jones: I think so -
Coach Boone: Now you're thinkin'. First you smile, then you think. You think football is still fun?
Petey Jones: Uh, yes.
Coach Boone: Sir.
Petey Jones: Yes-no, sir.
Coach Boone: No?
Petey Jones: Um, it was fun, sir.
Coach Boone: Not any more though, is it? Is it?
Petey Jones: Not right now, no.
Coach Boone: No, it's not fun anymore. Not even a little bit.
Petey Jones: Uh... no.
Coach Boone: Make up your mind. Think, since you're thinkin'. Go on, think. Is it fun?
Petey Jones: No, sir.
Coach Boone: No? Absolutely not?
Petey Jones: Zero fun, sir.
Coach Boone: [Adresses the team] All right, listen up! I'm Coach Boone, I'm gonna tell you all about how much [looks at Petey] fun you're gonna have this season.

Coach Boone: Are your parents here?
Bertier: That´s my mother right there.
Coach Boone: That's your mama? Very nice, how are you?.
[nods his head at Gerry's mom]
Coach Boone: You take one last good look at her. Cause once you step on that bus you aint got your mama anymore. You got your brothers on the team and you got your daddy. You know who your daddy is, dontcha? Gerry, if you want to play on this football team, you answer me when I ask you who is your daddy? Who's your daddy, Gerry? Who's your daddy?
Bertier: You.
Coach Boone: And who's team is this, Gerry? Is this your team? Or is this your daddy's team?
Bertier: Yours.
Coach Boone: Now get on the bus. Put on your jacket first and get on the bus.

Bertier: Listen, I'm Gerry, you're Julius. Let's just get some particulars and get this over with.
Julius: Particulars? Man, no matter what I tell you, you ain't neva gonna know nothing about me.
Bertier: Listen, I ain't running any more of these three-a-days--
Julius: Well, what I got to say you really don't wanna hear 'cuz honesty ain't too high upon your people priority list.
Bertier: Honesty? You want honesty? Honestly, I think you're nothing. Nothing but a pure waste of God-given talent. You don't listen to nobody man. Not even Doc or Boone. Shiver push on the line everytime and you blow right past 'em. Push 'em, pull 'em. do something. You can't run over everyone in this league and everytime you do you leave one of your teammates hanging out to dry, me in particular!
Julius: Why should I give a hoot about you? Huh? Or anyone else out there? You wanna talk about a waste, you the captain, right?
Bertier: Right.
Julius: Captian's supposed to be the leader, right?
Bertier: Right.
Julius: You got a job?
Bertier: I got a job.
Julius: You been doing your job?
Bertier: I been doing my job.
Julius: Then why don't you tell your white buddies to block for Rev better because they have not blocked for him worth a plug nickel, and you know it! Nobody plays. Yourself included. I'm supposed to wear myself out for the team? What team? Nah, nah what I'm gonna do is look out for myself and I'ma get mine.
Bertier: See man, thats the worst attitude I eva heard.
Julius: Attitude reflects leadership, captain.

[after Petey makes a fumble]
Coach Boone: What is wrong with you?! Why are you fumblin' my football?!
Petey Jones: My blockers were-
Coach Boone: Your blockers! Your blockers don't have anything to do with you holdin' on the the ball! Did your blockers fumble the football, or did you fumble the football!
Petey Jones: I did sir.
Coach Boone: Alright! how many feet are in a mile? How many feet are in a mile?
Petey Jones: I dunno.
Coach Boone: 5,280 feet! You pick this ball up, you run every one of them! You're killing me Petey! You're killing me!

Blue Stanton: Coach we need a water break, we been out here all day!
Coach Boone: What did you say?
Blue Stanton: We need a water break sir.
Coach Boone: A water break? Water is for cowards. Water makes you weak. Water is for washing blood off that uniform and you don't get no blood on my uniform, boy you must be outside yo mind! We are going to up-downs, until Blue is no longer tired, and thirsty.

Petey Jones: Hey, hey, Lastik man what happened to you?
Louie Lastik: [holding back, in fake pain] Man I just gave your momma a piggy-back ride and she weighs twice as much as I do!
Petey Jones: That ain't funny!

Bertier: Hey Julius I was thinking we could...
Ronnie "Sunshine" Bass: He's taking a shower.
Bertier: What do you want?
Ronnie "Sunshine" Bass: You know what I want
[Ronnie kisses him and Bertier starts trying to punch him, while the team holds him back]
Bertier: Enough!
Julius: What is going on here?
Bertier: He kissed me! [Julius pauses for a moment, then starts laughing]

Coach Boone: What are you?
Team: Mobile, agile, hostile!
Coach Boone: What is pain?
Team: French bread!
Coach Boone: What is fatigue?
Team: Army clothes!
Coach Boone: Will you ever quit?
Team: No! We want some mo', we want some mo', we want some mo'!

Sheryl Yoast: Coach Boone, you did a good job up here. You ran a tough camp from what I can see.
Coach Boone: Well I'm very happy to have the approval of a 5 year old.
Sheryl Yoast: I'm 9 and a half, thank you very much.
Coach Boone: Why don't you get this little girl some pretty dolls or something coach?
Coach Yoast: I've tried. She loves football.

Blue Stanton: Five, Six, Five Six Seven Eight!
Team: Everywhere we go -Everywhere we go-, people wanna know -people wanna know-, who we are -who we are-, so we tell them -so we tell them- We Are The Titans! -We Are The Titans!- The Mighty Mighty Titans! -The Mighty Mighty Titans!...

Coach Paul 'Doc' Hines: You have twelve brothers and sisters?
Coach Boone:: Eight.
Coach Paul 'Doc' Hines: Yeah, twelve sounds better.

Coach Yoast: I think this is a very good time for prayer and reflection...
Bertier: Coach, I'm hurt. I ain't dead.
Coach Yoast: Yeah...yeah, I guess you're right.
Bertier: You know, I've been reading up on what activities they got for people in wheelchairs and such...[smiles] They've got Olympics.

[Julius visits Bertier in the hospital]
Nurse: Only kin's allowed in here.
Bertier: Alice, are you blind? Don't you see the family resemblance? That's my brother.

[Yoast confronts a crooked referee at the regional championship game]
Coach Yoast: I know all about it, Titus.
Referee: What are you taliking about, Bill?
Coach Yoast: You call this game fair, or I'll go to the papers. I don't care if I go down with you, but before God I swear I'll see every last one of you thrown in jail!
Referee: You dig your own grave.
Coach Yoast: Okay.

Coach Yoast: DEFENSE ON ME! Petey don't you drift to the strong side.
Petey Jones: Coach, they're calling a holding penalty on me every time-
Coach Yoast: Did I ask for your excuses? You want to act like a star, you better give me a star effort, do you hear me? [Petey walks away] Forget about him. ALAN you're in, come on. All right now, I don't want them to gain another yard! You BLITZ ALL NIGHT!!! If they cross the line of scrimmage, I swear I'll take every last one of you out... You make sure they remember FOREVER the night they played the titans!!![defense cheers] Leave no doubt!
